Hardware Preparation

Before connecting your camera to Evoto Instant, make sure your hardware setup is ready. This article covers the required equipment, cable types, and basic camera prep.

Required Equipment

  • A digital camera
    • Supported brands include Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic etc.
    • For a detailed list of supported camera models, see the Supported Camera Models guide.

  • A smartphone with OTG support
    • iOS: version 14.2 or later
    • Android: version 9 or later

  • A compatible data cable
    • Most new smartphones use USB Type-C.
    • Older devices may require Micro-B, Mini-B, or an OTG adapter.
    • iPhone 14 and earlier models require a Lightning-to-USB OTG adapter.

Step 1: Enable OTG (Android Only)

On Android devices, OTG (On-The-Go) must be enabled for wired connections.

  1. Open your phone’s Settings.

  2. Use the search bar and type OTG.

  3. Toggle OTG Connection on.

Note: If OTG does not appear in your settings, it is usually enabled by default.

Step 2: Choose the Right Data Cable

Different cameras require different cable types. Match your camera’s USB port with the correct cable:

  • Type-C to Type-C – most new Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic cameras

  • Type-C to Micro-B (3.0) – mid-generation DSLRs (e.g., Canon 5D4, Nikon D850)

  • Type-C to Mini-B – older DSLRs (e.g., Canon 5D3, Nikon D700)

  • Type-C to Micro-B (2.0) – compact models like Sony A6000, ZV-1

  • Lightning + OTG Adapter – required for iPhone 14 and earlier

Note: For a detailed list of supported models, see the Camera Cable Compatibility guide.

Step 3: Prepare Your Camera

  • Ensure the camera is fully charged or connected to external power.

  • For Canon and Nikon cameras: format the memory card before connecting — a card with too many images may slow the connection.

  • For Sony and Fujifilm cameras: set the correct USB mode:

    • PC Remote for live tethered capture

    • MTP for SD card import

Once your phone, cable, and camera are prepared, you’re ready to connect and start using Evoto Instant.
